ABOUT

Throat, Eye, and Knucklebone Dance is a dance films company based in Los Angeles, CA. The core collaborators include award winning physical theater choreographer, Celina Chapin, dance choreographer and Florida State dancer, Sabina Valery, and award winning filmmaker and Conde Nast Film Director, Jing Niu.

We dance the dance between our bodies and the politics that try to shape us, to surveil us, and that inscribe false limits at the edges of our lives. We reclaim the archetype of Video Girl that has accreted around forms of popular dance. Our process is built through a collaboration between women who work from diverse backgrounds and with our diverse communities to reframe the role of dance, of moving images, of our bodies and ourselves in an increasingly fractious and insular society. We are dedicated to breaking down these barriers by sharing our work and in our immediate communities through workshops, collaboration, and devising work with people in the community.

“The sequence, choreographed by Chapin, is breathtaking and simultaneously horrifying and beautiful. It’s a lengthy sequence but one you wish would keep going.”

- Jeff Davis, Broadway World

“[Chapin's] energy is fabulous and her choreography of movement is — well, let’s use that current cliché in its original sense — awesome.  These assured, lithe performers have devised images and tableaux that burn themselves into your memory.”

-Michael Meigs, Central Texas Live Theatre
